Piglet market weakens as pork prices slightly rise

The EU pig and pork indices are starting to show slight movements across the chain. The EU-5 Piglet Price Index decreased to €65.97 while the EU-6 Pork Price Index slightly increased to €1.60. Although pig herds have declined in key producing regions such as Spain and the Netherlands, this effect is being caused by herd adjustments in countries like Denmark, Germany and Poland and by ample global pork supply. The market has not yet shown shortage signs.
